The role of civil society organizations in advancing aid effectiveness
The role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in advancing aid effectiveness is expected to be an important aspect of the preparations for the Third HLF.
The Advisory Group on Civil Society and Aid Effectiveness (AG-CS), a multi-stakeholder group set up by the Working Party on Aid Effectiveness, has a mandate to look into civil society’s functions as development actors in the broad sense, and its role in promoting accountability and demand for results.
Starting in 2007, the AG-CS has carried out a broad-based consultation process that culminated in an International Forum in February 2008.
A draft Synthesis of the Findings and Recommendations to the HLF was presented in April 2008.
CSOs are also independently preparing for the Third HLF. The International Civil Society Steering Group (ISG) has presented a CSO policy paper and is planning to arrange a civil society Forum in Accra immediately before the HLF.
